Why Vote for Edwin? Steady Leadership, Smart Growth & Strong Community

Edwin has been asked pretty often lately "Why should we vote for you?" Below Edwin highlight's a few of the reasons why you should vote for him.

I’m honored to serve as your Huntersville Town Commissioner, where my focus has always been on building a stronger, more connected community while preserving the unique character that makes people proud to call Huntersville home.

As a veteran reappointed to the Governor’s North Carolina Veterans Affairs Commission, I’ve proudly championed the first Veterans Service Center in North Mecklenburg, ensuring that local veterans and their families receive the support they’ve earned.

On behalf of our citizens, I’ve listened and worked to deliver meaningful results:

Public Safety: Supported Huntersville’s first full-time fire department, funded two new fire trucks, and approved land purchases and design work for new stations to serve our growth. I also voted to increase pay for police officers to attract and retain top talent and added new school resource officers to keep students safe.

Infrastructure: Approved over $1 million in new sidewalks, intersection improvement, and multiple traffic-calming projects that improve neighborhood safety and connectivity.

Smart Growth: Advanced mixed-use development that revitalizes downtown, and key westside development, Town One, shifting traffic, easing congestion, and improving balance throughout town.

Our board’s decisions have strengthened Huntersville’s financial base, generating $2.4 million in annual county tax revenue to support schools, infrastructure, and essential services—while slowing multifamily approvals to ensure responsible growth. These projects have created more than 1,500 temporary and 1,100 permanent jobs in our community.

I also support the proposed 1-cent sales tax, which would bring $12 million annually to Huntersville starting in 2026 for critical road and infrastructure projects. Delaying the transit plan only increases future costs, a mistake we’ve seen too often reflected in today’s traffic challenges.

As part of the first board to negotiate and deliver affordable housing units now built and occupied, I remain committed to ensuring that our workforce can live where they work and that more seniors can age in place without fear of displacement. Preserving Huntersville’s historic neighborhoods and advancing livability and housing diversity remain central to my priorities.

Transparency and accessibility are fundamental to how I lead. From live-streamed board meetings to community newsletters, local radio appearances, and expanded social media outreach, I’ve made local government more open than ever before. Most importantly, I meet with residents throughout the year to listen, address concerns, and ensure that my decisions reflect the will of our community.

I’m a listener, collaborator, and believer in nonpartisan, common-sense leadership. Local elections matter, and Huntersville’s board decisions directly affect our daily lives. With your support, I’ll continue working for steady leadership, smart growth, and a strong, connected community.
