Edwin Quarles & LaToya Rivers Endorsed by the Black Political Caucus of Mecklenburg County

Huntersville, NC:  The Black Political Caucus of Mecklenburg County (BPC) has officially endorsed Edwin Quarles and LaToya Rivers in their re-election campaigns for Huntersville Town Commission. Both incumbents have built strong reputations for championing equity in infrastructure, protecting historic neighborhoods, and supporting workforce housing while fostering a thriving community for all residents.

“We are deeply honored to have the endorsement of the Black Political Caucus,” said Quarles and Rivers in a joint statement. “This endorsement affirms our shared commitment to advancing equity, protecting historic communities like Pottstown, and ensuring infrastructure and transit investments serve all residents—especially those who too often feel overlooked.”

Quarles and Rivers share support for the proposed 1C transit tax, viewing it as a crucial step toward ensuring seniors, working families, and underserved communities alike can access medical care, grocery stores, and other essential services with greater ease and dignity using the funds that would flow to Huntersville should voters approve the tax increase. These dollars help offset infrastructure costs that would otherwise have to paid from the Town’s general fund to cover future sidewalk and intersection improvements, traffic calming devices, bike paths, and lighting.

Both leaders bring distinct yet complementary strengths to Huntersville’s future:

  • Commissioner LaToya Rivers has been a visible, consistent advocate for Pottstown Preservation and has taken a strong stand against unchecked development that fuels gentrification. She has also been an advocate for infrastructure improvements in overlooked, 

  • Commissioner Edwin Quarles has built bridges between citizens, developers, and town leadership to advance smart growth and affordable housing, while prioritizing open communication and proactive community engagement.

  • Both candidates are committed to working collaboratively with residents, the Lake Norman Chamber, and all local, and regional stakeholders.

Together, they represent steady leadership to continue the works they started in their first terms as commissioners.
